Corporate Background
Whitson Dawson is a third generation public accounting practice providing services for small to medium sized businesses throughout Central Queensland.
Whitson Dawson had its origins from the practice WG Hodges and Co. William George Hodges commenced the practice in 1883 to service the growing township of Mackay.
We still have the same Post Office Box as in 1883, unfortunately not the same telephone number which was 10.
Colin Whitson joined in 1956 bringing his experience into the practice. When Colin passed away Neil Whitson became the Principal. Neil acquired Alex Dawson’s practice in 1973 merging the two practices into Whitson Dawson & Co. Sadly the third generation of Hodges (Lex) passed away in the late 1990’s.
Andrew Whitson, who now manages the practice, and his brother David, have over the last decade expanded the practice into other industries. They consider it important to provide a proactive approach to client care to assist clients in navigating a complex taxation and business environment.
The practice provides support for a diverse range of clients including: Mining and Mining Related Businesses, Light Industry and Manufacturing, Sugar, Cattle, Earthmoving, Retail, Trade, Real Estate, Property Development, Finance and Private Investors.
Whitson Dawson provides taxation and business advice in relation to: buying/selling a business or property, running your own business, Capital Gains Tax, Superannuation, Tax Structures, Tax Planning, Estate Planning, GST and Income Tax.

 Andrew Whitson
 Andrew holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree and is a member of CPA Australia, specialising in Taxation. Having worked in Townsville for 5 years at one of the largest practices in the region at that time, he moved to Mackay in 1995 to join Whitson Dawson. In 2000 he worked with Neil to expand and prepare the firm for the introduction of the GST, working closely with individual clients to ensure a smooth transition for their businesses. He has been a partner since 2002 and advises clients from a wide range of industries such as primary production, construction, mining and retail. Andrew was born and bred in Mackay and, as a great believer in contributing to the community, serves on a number of local organisations. Late Sunday afternoons he likes to spend time with his wife, 3 children and dog playing football in the backyard |

Dave Whitson
 Dave joined the practice after completing his Commerce Degree at University of Queensland in 2000. He gained his fully qualified CPA status in 2004 achieving three distinctions and two high distinctions in Taxation and Strategic Management Accounting. Since then he has set about building his own client base across several different industries including the Sugar Industry, Mining Services, Hospitality, Tourism, Construction and Retail. He believes customer service is Whitson Dawson’s point of difference and encourages delivery of this to the highest standard to our clients. Personally he enjoys touch footy, going to the gym and since recently becoming a dad he has taken up sleeping on couches. |

Alan Geldard
 Alan has a Bachelor of Business Degree. After completing his business studies at University of Southern Queensland he obtained PNA status with the National Institute of Accountants and is also a registered Tax Agent. Alan joined the practice in 1968 and has serviced local Mackay businesses well through the peaks and troughs of the regional economic cycle. Always abreast of the consequences of the ever changing tax legislation Alan has provided a mentoring role for many of the practice’s junior accountants. A staunch Cowboys supporter he is and always will be! |

Chris Breckell
 Chris is a born and bred local from a business family. He completed a Bachelor of Commerce Degree through James Cook University in Townsville in 1990. Chris has been with Whitson Dawson since 1999. He is experienced in Individual, Partnership, Company and Trust accounting for a variety of industries, as well as Audits. Chris has a down to earth approach to all client matters. Chris married Annette in 1994 and has two lovely children, Mikeely and Dylan and loves anything to do with the outdoors. |

Rino Sacchetti
 Rino has a Bachelor of Business and is a member of CPA Australia. He joined the practice in 2003 and brings 20 years of both taxation and commercial experience. He has a diverse portfolio of clients including Primary Production, Retail, Building Industry, Medical and not-for-profit organizations. His friendly and understanding nature along with his ethnic language and background adds an extra dimension to the practice. He enjoys all sports, in particular Rugby League and enjoying time with his wife and family. |

Sue Matsen
 After leaving Mirani High School Sue completed a 12 month Business Course at Mackay TAFE. Sue worked in Mackay for a year and then headed to Sydney and worked at an accounting practice for three years. Sue then returned home to Mackay so that she could begin saving to travel overseas. Sue started at Whitson Dawson & Co at the young age of 21 in 1991. In her spare time Sue enjoys crafts, gardening, going to the movies, theatre and travelling.

Leeann Conquest
 Leeann brings her sound administration skills to the team at Whitson Dawson. She has a strong client service mentality and believes our service adds value to clients and their businesses. She strives to be accessible and responsive so that our clients get pro-active service in all areas. On the weekends Leeann enjoys spending time with her family, kayaking and improving her golf skills.
